After forcibly entering a Hughesville home at 172 S. Fourth St. by pushing a mother and daughter out of the way about 2 p.m. on June 27, Austin Reed Rothfuss went upstairs, grabbed a child’s mesh bag before he was chased out of the house, according to an affidavit.

Borough police responded and nabbed Rothfuss, 29, of 369 Schmidt Road, Muncy, near South Sixth and East Academy streets, the affidavit stated. Rothfus, who admitted to doing “coke (cocaine) and meth (methamphetamine)” earlier in the day, had been “working on a neighbor’s roof prior to entering the 172 property,” police alleged.

Arraigned before District Judge William Solomon on charges of felony trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance (a bag of methamphetamine was discovered in his wallet) and harassment.

Initially jailed, he has since been released on $25,000 bail, and he has waived his preliminary hearing.
